The directions say to deep fry; however, we haven't done that -- just pan fry in some olive oil and flip like a burger. Spicy, but not too spicy, and contains just fava beans and chickpeas while some other brands leave out the fava beans and add wheat flour. The instructions say add 1 cup water to 1 cup mix but that's too much water. 3/4 cup water is more reasonable. Most mixes take about 15 minutes to thicken after water is added. This one takes at least 30 minutes. Even then, it might not be thick enough. I have broiled the falafels rather than deep frying, so the fact that they are "wetter" than most falafels is actually a good thing since they don't get dried out. The falafels do taste great. |
